Practical, field-built training developing the next generation of supervisors across mining, resources, transport and rail.
Mader is strengthening its field leadership capability with the launch of a Supervisor Training Program designed to deliver what operations actually need on site, capable leaders who can step in, take ownership and get the job done safely and efficiently.
Built from decades of hands-on experience, the program focuses on developing supervisors who understand the realities of the field, not just the theory. It creates a consistent pipeline of site-ready leaders who can support both Mader and client teams from day one.
For clients, that means fewer gaps in leadership, stronger accountability on site and supervisors who can confidently manage people, safety and job execution without the usual ramp-up time.
The program is supported by the Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor certification, ensuring compliance with WA mining and WHS legislation while lifting the overall standard of supervision across site.
General Manager of HR and Training Charlotte Wagner said the program was intentionally built to reflect the real challenges of leading in the field.
“This isn’t off-the-shelf training. It’s built around how our teams actually work on site,” she said.
“We’re developing supervisors who can lead crews, make decisions under pressure and deliver outcomes for our clients, not just tick compliance boxes.”
The training focuses on the areas that have the biggest impact on performance:
- Leadership and accountability on site
- Job planning, execution and communication
- Safety leadership and risk management
- People management and team dynamics
- Mental health awareness and support, including Mental Health First Aid training
Real Progression, Not Just Training
The program is also a key part of Mader’s commitment to creating genuine career pathways for its workforce.
It gives tradespeople the opportunity to step into leadership roles while staying connected to the field, extending careers and opening up new pathways beyond the tools.
Keith, who has worked with Mader in the Goldfields for several years, said the program reflects what makes the business different.
“I’ve worked for some big companies over the years, and not many back their people like Mader does,” he said.
“The flexibility is a big part of why I’ve stayed. I can plan my roster around my life and still keep doing the work I enjoy.”
“This training gives you options. You can stay in the field, but step into something more. As you get older, that matters. You’re not stuck doing the same thing forever, you can move into supervision or training and keep progressing.”
Stronger Teams On Site
By investing in leadership at every level, Mader is not only supporting its people, it is delivering better outcomes for clients.
A stronger pipeline of supervisors means:
- Consistent leadership across crews and sites
- Improved safety performance
- Better communication between teams
- More efficient job delivery
- Reduced reliance on external hires
