Take your trade global. Build your career, travel the world, and experience life on the tools across Canada and beyond.

If you’ve ever thought about packing up the toolbox and giving overseas a crack, this is your shot. Mader’s Global Pathways Initiative (GPI) is made for tradies who want more: more experience, more opportunity, and a whole lot more adventure along the way. We’re helping skilled technicians experience a career overseas, levelling up the types of jobs you get to work on, and get more out of your RnR exploring Canada and beyond.

What is Mader’s Global Pathways Initiative?

GPI is Mader’s way of getting good people into great roles all over the world, without the headache. We sort it all out so you can focus on the job. You’ll move into an international role with proper support behind you, from the lead-up right through to boots on ground. It’s not just a job change. It’s about doing something life changing.

What’s Involved?

We’ve made the process as simple as possible.

  • Before You Go: We help with visas and getting everything lined up. We’ll match you to the right role based on your experience. You can choose to live anywhere you want across Canada, in the same FIFO/DIDO model that Aussie tradies are used too. But it doesn’t stop there, we also help sort out your family if you’re bringing them along too.
  • Once You’re There: You will get local support to help you settle in, meet with the team that you’ll be working with, and experience ongoing support from the wider Mader.
  • On the Job: A typical day will see you work on some big gear across major operations across Canada. You’ll get exposure to different equipment and conditions, so you can keep building your skills.

The Lifestyle

Going on an adventure to Canada is not just about getting to work on cool gear, it’s also unlocking the ability to travel and explore an entirely new place on your RnR. Whether it’s the slopes of Whistler or a sunrise hike in the Canadian Rockies, choosing to take up an opportunity of a lifetime with GPI to Canada will give you experiences you won’t forget.

Why GPI?

You could be working in snow one week and exploring the mountains the next. It’s a different pace, different conditions, and an exciting change from what you might be used to.

  • Real Opportunities with a company that knows the game
  • Strong Crew Culture wherever you land
  • Career Growth across global operations
  • Proper Support from start to finish

We’ve done this before. We know what works.

Who’s It For?

This is for tradies who:

  • Know their way around the tools and want to take their career up a gear
  • Love a challenge, aren’t afraid of a new environment, and keen for a bit of adventure

If you’re comfortable getting stuck in and want something different, you’ll fit right in!

Hear What Our Team Thought of the Experience

Liam Blaxell’s journey with Mader began in 2012 in the Pilbara, working on engine rebuilds and component change-outs before taking his career global with Mader International in Thailand. Since then, he has worked across seven countries, with his latest move taking him and his family to Colorado, USA. Liam says working in the States has been a career highlight, from the unreal geographical diversity of the Mojave Desert to snow-capped mountains, to the friendly culture and easy access to iconic destinations like Yellowstone and Yosemite. Professionally, his career has continued to grow through major slew ring change-outs, shovel repowers and leadership roles, progressing from Team Lead to Supervisor. Liam credits Mader for making the transition seamless and encourages anyone considering an overseas move to take it!

Tom Brooke joined Mader in 2020, starting in the Goldfields division before moving into the Pilbara team in 2022, then taking the leap to Canada for a new challenge, cold-weather experience and plenty of snowboarding adventures. One standout moment inf his career was working above the Arctic Circle at Eureka Weather Station on the 80th Parallel, experiencing 24-hour daylight while working alongside Arctic wolves. Outside of work, Tom has embraced everything Canada has to offer, from exploring breathtaking landscapes to snowboarding world-class mountains in winter. Reflecting on the move, Tom’s advice is simple,

“Just go for it. Canada has so much to see and so many memories to make!”
