From fleet checks to safety compliance, how Mader Group keeps our people, our vehicles and our sites safe both on and off the road.
At Mader Group, safety is not a box-tick exercise, it’s the foundation of everything we do. Whether our team is on the road in fleet vehicles, manoeuvring machinery on site, or walking through a work-zone, the same guiding principle applies: we remain geared for safety to ensure everyone gets home safe.
Work-related driving carries unique risks. For Mader employees, a vehicle is not just a means of transport, while out in the field it becomes a workplace. That means drivers, supervisors and our broader team must treat it with the same safety mindset as any other element of our operations.
When it comes to vehicle safety, whether that’s on-site, or travelling to and from, we have utilised technology across our fleet, to put the safety of our employees as a top priority.
- In Vehicle Monitoring Systems: These systems utilise satellite and Global System for Mobile (GSM) tracking to monitor speed, braking behaviours and sudden changes to vehicle movements.
- Driver Fatigue Monitoring Systems: All Mader vehicles are fitted with three vision cameras to monitor the driver’s state. In the case of a potential fatigue or distraction event ad seat vibration and audible alarm are triggered and a notification is sent to operational personnel.
- Alcohol Interlock Systems: The interlock systems fitted in all Mader vehicles require a breath sample given prior to starting the vehicle.
- Panic Switches: In case of emergency, drivers can activate the panic switch in their vehicle to trigger an emergency response from Mader personnel. This system utilises satellite and GSM tracking to ensure no matter where our employees are, they can call for help.
- Journey Management Plans (JMP): Our JMP’s are completed electronically via our Mader employee app. This allows for notifications to be shared with operational teams, ensuring they are aware of team member movements and can follow up on incomplete JMPs to confirm that the team have arrived safety at their destination.
Establishing a safety culture where the vehicle is always treated as part of the workplace helps reinforce consistent safe behaviours from our team.
At the executive and project-leadership level, Mader Group remains committed to:
- Continual investment in fleet safety technology, training and maintenance.
- Transparent reporting of safety metrics and near-misses, not just incidents.
- Empowering every individual to act, if an employee sees something unsafe, speak up, stop work if needed, and escalate.
- Embedding safety into every job, every journey, every site, regardless of the job.
In the high-stakes world of mining, vehicle-safety is not optional, it’s business-critical. When the vehicle you drive or the route you travel becomes the workplace, staying geared for safety becomes part of the equation.
At Mader Group we define success not just by the boxes ticked or km’s covered, but by the number of shift-ends where every team member leaves the job as safe as when they arrived. Because we know our people are our greatest asset.
Let’s keep raising the standard and together stay geared for safety.
